Bondi has an art culture coursing through the veins of the community inhabiting the beach side paradise. From the Bondi Graffiti Wall that showcases local and international talent to the dedication of a one, Uge Tan from Aquabumps, who captures a day break snap every morning – art is plentiful. Just like acai bowls and col pressed juices, art is everywhere in this town… though you need to know where to be looking to suss out the best bits. To start off, here are a handful of galleries you should check out next time the sun goes away and you find yourself in the bubble.
Located a little way from the sandy beach, Art Atrium presents local artists work with a yearlong programme of visiting exhibitions. Coming up in April, you will find Robbie Neal’s After Before Time and with it his fascination with time and deep interest with jelly fish. Robbie will be signing his new book, fresh from the printers and will be at Art Atrium from April 1 -16.
Adrian Newstead, director of the gallery, personally takes time to head out to different indigenous communities across Australia to source some of the best paintings from the land. Showcasing these artworks here and overseas, the Coo-ee gallery feels at home in Bondi. Check out the collection, find those pieces that really speak to you and learn the story behind the colours.
