Sharing centre stage with the highly-anticipated reveal of Sydney’s new designer hotel, QT Sydney, the hotel’s staff attire has been ingeniously designed by renowned costume designer Janet Hine. Creating theatrical attitude, staff outfits complement the quirky and cutting-edge style of the hotel, impacting guests right from arrival.
Well-known for her costume design at Granada Media and Costume Couture, Janet Hine joins a celebrated team of creative professionals from architects to an art curator in developing and designing staff attire for the hotel.
Hine’s creative process began with a vision of wanting to move away from the bore of normal hospitality wear and as a result she decided to create hotel ‘characters’ jam-packed with buoyancy and boldness.
Adding to the hotel’s innovative environment, but not visually wrestling with it, Hine has creatively fashioned attire for each of the groups of staff – making sure every one of them is as integral to the overall impact and visual delivery of the hotel as possible, sitting confidently alongside the playful design of the hotel.
From ‘Director of Chaos’ at the hotel’s entry and front desk, through to housekeeping, Hine has created a cohesive looking team whose attitudes exude a heap of self-effacing Sydney cool.
Wigs and make-up artistry add gusto to some of the more eccentric of characters with an in-house artist engaged to create dramatic make-up, charm and personality day after day.
About QT Sydney
The culmination of some hefty restoration work, the historic Gowings and State Theatre buildings in Sydney’s CBD have been artfully revamped to see the introduction of Sydney’s newest hip designer hotel, QT Sydney.
An eagerly awaited development, with the gothic façades and features of the buildings carefully returned to their former glory, whilst inside the hotel possess cutting edge art and design featuring LED digital art, bespoke furniture and a strong use of bold colours makes clever interior design central to the hotel experience. And you can’t beat the location – it couldn’t be more in the heart of the city of it tried. The bowler hat lights are a favourite cheeky touch, but there’s a huge focus on art and design here. QT isn’t just about a place to lay your head.
QT Sydney is scheduled to open in September this year and is the only Sydney hotel to be a member of the exclusive Design Hotels.
