Parlour ART – QT Sydney Supports Emerging Talent

Posted on: 10 February 2014

QT Sydney has teamed up with Australia’s international art fair, Sydney Contemporary, and Renegade Collective Magazine in a bid to discover Australia’s most exciting new talent. QT Sydney’s café and bar, Parlour Lane Roasters, will play host to a showcase called Parlour ART, a mixed exhibition of 6 fledgling artists and designers.

Parlour ART is dedicated to the promotion of emerging student artists and designers – providing a rare opportunity for the works of undiscovered talent to be viewed by hundreds of guests passing through QT Sydney, art and design lovers, active buyers, influential gallery owners and design curators. The chosen works will be presented in Parlour Lane’s spectacular 1930’s display cabinets in the lead-up to.

Following a call-out to student artists and designers from art and design schools, a panel of industry experts will judge uploaded entries and shortlist 10 stand-out submissions.

The 10 shortlisted artists and designers will be provided with $200 for materials and challenged to create a work which represents the character of QT Sydney – everything from voyeurism, confidence, and daring eccentricity. From the 10 shortlisted, 6 finalists will have their works showcased within the Parlour ART exhibition at Parlour Lane Roasters and the winner will receive $500 and editorial feature in Renegade Collective magazine.

The exhibition will add to QT Sydney’s already considered portfolio of artworks by well-regarded Australian and New Zealand based artists, including; Daniel Crooks, Daniel Boyd and Grant Stevens. Curated by art expert Amanda Love, the existing works use varied mediums in and around QT’s public spaces, guest rooms and the hotel’s bar, Gilt Lounge, providing a visual feast of light and movement. QT Sydney now offers guests and art lovers the chance to learn more about the hotels art through offering an ‘Art Guide’ – these are available from the hotel reception or concierge.

Getting your work in front of the eyes of commercial galleries and those searching for thought-provoking design can be the most difficult step artist and designers have to take. Parlour ART provides a great opportunity to get noticed by some of Australia’s best galleries, design curators and consultants“, commented Amanda Love, QT Hotels’ Art Curator

The panel of industry experts that will select the artists include QT Sydney’s Art Curator – Amanda Love, Editor of Renegade Collective – Lisa Messenger, QT Sydney’s Interior Stylist – Jane Frosh, Director of Social Media at QT Hotels & Resorts – Sas Lyon and CEO and Group Fairs Director of Art Fairs Australia – Barry Keldoulis.
