HIPPOPOTAMUS LEAVES BEHIND FRENCH GASTRONOMY – for the first time in decade and for one night only

On Tuesday August 15, Hippopotamus Restaurant will not be serving French fare – the first time since the establishment’s opening. Wellington’s celebrity chef Laurent Loudeac will host a five course degustation with an international menu at QT Museum Wellington’s signature restaurant, Hippopotamus, ahead of this year’s Visa Wellington On a Plate, beginning on August 11 throughout the culinary capital.

For the first time, in nearly a decade, Hippopotamus will take inspiration of flavours from the markets of China, jungles of Chile and bustling back alleys of Korea. Journey through the ancestry behind Loudeac’s chefs as they present Around the World in Five Courses. Guests will be treated to a specially curated menu that will showcase five bespoke dishes, exclusively for this event. Complete the journey with flavoursome New Zealand wine matches as Hippopotamus presents the tastes China, Singapore, India, Chile and Korea with the finesse and quality that Hippopotamus has built its reputation on for the last decade – together with QT’s 5-star reputation for doing things differently.

Around the World in Five Courses not only mirrors the diversity of Laurent’s talented team, but also Wellington’s ever-evolving, diverse palette with QT’s signature quirk. QT Museum Wellington’s Hippopotamus marks a significant part in its history at this year’s Visa Wellington On a Plate, an annual region-wide culinary takeover where Wellington’s restaurants, laneways and carparks play host to wild celebrations of the culinary arts.
