Esther’s Doing The Truffle Shuffle

Posted on: 17 June 2022

Truffles are elevating dishes at Esther this winter.

One of the most luxurious ingredients in the world, the fabled truffle, will be a welcome addition across the menus at QT Auckland’s award-winning restaurant, Esther.

This winter, Culinary Food & Beverage Director Sean Connolly, reinvigorates nostalgic dishes  from his repertoire, incorporating the decadent truffle.

Throughout June and July, à la carte menus will be given a truffle upgrade across breakfast, lunch and dinner, while truffle-infused cocktails are available for a new take. When it comes to truffles, Connolly sees them as an honest luxury, “Think of this menu as my best-of album; these dishes would be my top ten. They come with a lot of authenticity and a lot of thought. They’re about tradition, enhancing the flavour profile of truffles and elevating the flavours of food.”

Esther’s truffles are all sourced from New Zealand; Tewnion Truffière by Wayne and Alison Tewnion in Canterbury, and Black Truffle from Riwaka. Truffle lovers can try the country’s delacacies by booking the following:

Four-course truffle menu
Guests are invited to enjoy an indulgent four-course truffle menu for $45, that’s available for lunch every Thursday and Friday in June and July. The menu features dishes like mushrooms with rich ricotta gnocchi and pasture-fed eye fillet with truffle butter.

Unearthed at Esther
On Saturday June 18, delve into the complexity of the decadent truffle at Unearthed at Esther. At $195 per person, guests will be treated to an eight dish feast, exploring the complex flavours of different varieties. Start with textures of mushroom with a quail egg glittering in gold leaf in porcini soup, Bianchetto truffle and duck egg ravioli, and beef wellington with Riwaka black truffle. Paired with Italian wine throughout, finish off the feast with apple tart fin and truffle ice cream.

Esther is open for dinner 7 days a week, and lunch on Thursdays and Fridays. Book a table and enjoy truly divine dishes this truffle season.
