Art in the Open

Posted on: 27 August 2012

A once dormant site in the heart of Sydney, the famous Gowings Building and heritage-listed State Theatre complex are now returned to residents and visitors as a space brimming with creative energy.

On the outside QT Sydney restores the façade of the buildings to their former glory. Venture inside and the old-world appeal is augmented by 21st Century technology, a celebration of creativity through cutting-edge works of art by emerging artists.

In consultation with prominent art experts, designers and architects, QT Sydney’s collection of artworks and graphics merges a rich historic fabric with a contemporary design aesthetic.

It begins on arrival in the lobby, a vibrant space that transforms into an urban playground after dark. Public areas throughout the hotel are defined by dramatic LED walls exhibiting digital art and acting as a backdrop to the eclectic artefacts peppered throughout the site. Curated from around the globe, each piece brings a distinctive flavour to the bold aesthetic of QT Sydney.

Moving between levels, guests will become part of an audio/visual piece that is a full sensory adventure adjusting to the mood of the lift and its inhabitants. While entry to the guest rooms and suites will be welcomed with a commissioned digital work by leading digital artist, Daniel Boyd.

Bespoke furniture and statement graphics are hallmarks of the QT Sydney experience, while strong hues of Yves Klein blue, magenta and citron play off against graphic black and white. Here, each and every space is treated as an entrée into a world of artistic excellence.

About QT Sydney

The culmination of some hefty restoration work, the historic Gowings and State Theatre Buildings in Sydney’s CBD have been artfully revamped to see the introduction of Sydney’s newest hip designer hotel, QT Hotel. It’s a development we’ve been eagerly awaiting, with the Gothic façades and features of the buildings carefully returned to their former glory, whilst inside the hotel possess cutting edge art and design featuring LED digital art, bespoke furniture and a strong use of bold colours makes clever interior design central to the hotel experience. And you can’t beat the location – it couldn’t be more in the heart of the city of it tried. The bowler hat lights are a favourite cheeky touch, but there’s a huge focus on art and design here. QT isn’t just about a place to lay your head.

QT Sydney is opening on 17th September 2012 and is the only Sydney hotel to be a member of the exclusive Design Hotels.

QT Sydney is located on George & Market Streets, Sydney NSW 2000
