I love a good birthday bash. I also dig dressing up and having a ridiculous time. Throw in some sun, sand and swell and I’ll be there with bells on. There’s a birthday party that will feature all this and it’s going down March 18… and that’s this Friday.
The dudes at OneWave will be celebrating their third birthday with a sunrise Fluro Friday session down at South Bondi and you are more than welcome to join. Dress in your high-vis aquatic favourites and make tracks for the beach to join in on a whole host of activities. From taking the board out to enjoy some chilled waves with a solid crew to stretching out a morning downward dog with the yogis on the beach.
One Wave was founded by Grant, Sam and Joel three years ago as a way to help fight the stigma around mental health issues. After being released from hospital with bi-polar, Grant felt that surfing with good friends and family was an easy way to take his mind off what he was going through and being surrounded by a supportive community was exactly what he needed. For the full story on the One Wave team check it out here.
Over the three years that One Wave has been happening, the group have been able to expand to beaches all around the country and even spread internationally. For the third birthday bash, there are currently 35 fives beaches that have signed up to be involved with the party. Meeting at the crisp hour of 6:30am on Friday, the One Wave team will be standing hand in hand across the beach to raise the conversation around mental illness and to help anyone going through a rough time.
The team at QT Bondi will be meeting in the lobby at 6:15am on Friday, dressed in their best fluro. Feel free to pop down and join them on the way to the beach for the finest start to your Friday you could ever have.
If you find yourself far from South Bondi, do not fret, you can find all the beaches taking part of the birthday celebrations over at the One Wave Facebook page.
Happy Birthday OneWave Dudes, you are all doing amazing work.
One Wave’s 3rd Birthday celebration is at 6.30am on Friday, March 18, 2016
