I don’t want to alarm anyone, but it’s February. Which means it’s almost March, the third month of the year; and this, my friends, signals the end of Summer. The days are getting shorter and gone are the nights where the lounge room is the beach and the TV is the sunset. Fret not, for we have many hours left of our buttery Australian sun, and a good chunk of them land on lazy sunny Sundays. And what better way to farewell the sunburn, salty hair and sweaty brows of summer with a good old-fashioned Sunday sesh on the shores of the sexy Bondi Beach. After a morning splash, park your derriere at one of these two Bondi hot-spots to salute the sun in all his fiery grandeur until dusk rolls in from the Tasman Sea.
Neighbourhood
Wander off the beach with sand and salt in your veins and march straight into Neighbourhood at 143 Curlewis Street. Bare brick walls framed in timber fence palings and beer crates as stools sets this little gem off with nothing but good vibes and even better cocktails. Boasting a sweet little outdoor area, live music and it’s very own radio station, Neighbourhood sets itself apart as the cracking little local for everyone to feel at home in. Also, they serve jaffles (what us Aussies call toasted/grilled sandwich). JAFFLES! Note to self – there is a Philly Cheesesteak one and it will explode your face off into confetti of awesome.
The Bucket List
You can’t go past the Bucket List for a Sunday Sesh. Like, I mean, literally. It’s right on the beach and you’ll hear the hum of activity from opening at 11am. It’s the kind of venue where one table boasts buckets of fish and chips (they’re actually served in buckets, hence the name) with crispy-haired surfies, and the one right next door has stiletto-clad and fancy-frocked ladies with diamonds frosting every square inch and champagne bubbling out the eyeballs. It’s eclectic, it’s desirable, but most of all, it’s popular. Ditch the sand before 1pm if you fancy a seat!
