Gallery 6: Joel Hart – Chaos of Calm

Drum roll please as we draw the curtain on Gallery 6’s latest exhibition. Taking up a six-month residency on Level 6 of QT Queenstown, we welcome artist Joel Hart in the eclectic embrace of our lakeside haven. 

Chaos of Calm is a journey through abstract wonders; where night sky meets cityscape, faces are etched with stories of beauty, mortality and decay, inviting you to look a little closer. This showcase in Gallery 6 is a cocktail of mediums upon canvas and plywood, spray paint acrylics and ink, intertwined with mixed metals.

Based in his hometown of Christchurch, Hart has been featured as a guest judge on The Block NZ and gained prominence for both his studio and mural works, transitioning from a world of corporate graphics to the freewheeling streets of urban art. Hart has melded his design sensibilities with street-smart graffiti gusto, creating works that are as at home on the side of a building as they are in a gallery.  

A maestro of the mural and a wizard with stencils, Hart crafts narratives that weave through the concrete jungle and beyond, into realms where the abstract and the urban sing in harmony.
A juxtaposition of natural beauty and vibrant energy, mirrors the dualities in his work, making Gallery 6 the perfect place for his solo spectacle.

Chaos of Calm will be exhibiting in Gallery 6 until October 2024, and is open for all to explore with all artworks will be available to purchase.
